REMEMBER HAPPY
Breakfast was our favorite thing to do
It always was a thing between me and you
Scrambled eggs and those green smoothies you hate
Prepared with love so you drank it anyway.
Phone calls was hardly our thing
But every now and then you would call on a whim
You dropped a line to ask me how I am
I dismiss it with a shrug or a few words if I can.
When I hear my heart breaking
Or I hear a thump when my knees give out
I remember happy
I remember when you were still around
If I try to silence my sobs
Or clench my teeth in despair
I remember you happy
I remember when you were still here.
You liked to solve problems
You said you were meant to save the world
Did things nobody would dare do
Did things nobody has ever heard.
When you know I wasn’t my best
You would whip out your guitar
And we would start singing happy songs
You’d make me feel like a star
When my eyes start tearing up
From the thought of losing you
I remember happy
I remember I deserve to be happy too
You have always told me
That life is painful and unfair
But you remind me to be happy
And that in my heart, you’re forever there.
For my first love until forever, My Papa.
